Demos
Demos is the leading public policy organization advocating for racial economic equity, democracy and social justice. In 2018, Demos sought to increase its impact and enhance its profile as it brought on new president K. Sabeel Rahman and transitioned its former president to distinguished senior fellow.
Spitfire serves as Demos’ agency of record, and together, we execute earned media (including placements in Blavity, The Hill and KCRW Los Angeles), crisis communication, rapid response and digital media strategies that shape the progressive narrative, champion ways to transform our democracy and address deep-seated inequities in our political and economic systems. During the transition, we refreshed its brand identity and designed and implemented a plan to lift up the voices of its senior leaders and experts.
With Spitfire’s guidance and support, Demos has enhanced its brand, elevated its profile as a “think and do” tank in the field and advanced the discourse about democracy, equity and the American promise. We will continue to work with Demos to support its vision for a just and equitable nation as the 2020 election and other milestones approach.
To kick off our brand strategy work, Spitfire interviewed people who know the organization well, reviewed its public materials, analyzed other organizations doing similar work and read its recent news coverage to thoroughly research how Demos is perceived by the field and how it positioned itself. Through our research, we pinpointed conflicts in Demos’ brand identity and ways to reconcile them. During in-person branding workshops, we took these findings to the Demos team and helped them work through a new brand vision and sharper messaging. Under Spitfire’s guidance, Demos redesigned its website to be more accessible and aligned with its brand identity, and strategically enhanced its social media engagement.
Spitfire executes earned and digital media strategies to elevate Demos’ public profile. We work alongside its president and leadership team to provide strategic counsel and implementation support for media interviews, events, policy reports and litigation in which Demos is involved. And we’re on hand to execute rapid response and crisis communication in response to legislative and judicial decisions, breaking news and other needs.
