Spitfire Announces New Talent from Coast to Coast

Spitfire Strategies has tapped Erin B. Hart as its new managing director, based in its San Francisco office. Erin’s background in the advocacy, communication and philanthropy fields make her the ideal match for supporting Spitfire’s focus on providing communication and campaign strategy and services to its nonprofit and foundation clients.
“I couldn’t be more pleased to welcome Erin to our team,” said Spitfire president Kristen Grimm, insisting that Erin’s Florida roots – while similar to her own – have only a little bit to do with the hire. “I have had an opportunity to work with her as a client and as a colleague in the field. I am greatly impressed by her ability to dig in on complex issues and develop smart messages and ideas that move important audiences.”

Erin brings expertise in communication planning, crisis communication, capacity building and campaign strategy and more. Her work on a wide variety of issues including ocean conservation, environmental education, public health and tobacco control, and more will help her dive right in to Spitfire’s diverse client base. As managing director, Erin will run West Coast operations, manage a portfolio of accounts and work with the rest of the senior team to pursue new opportunities nationwide.

On the East Coast, Spitfire recently welcomed Alex Formuzis as a new vice president based in its Washington, D.C., headquarters. Alex was previously vice president of communications for Environmental Working Group and also spent several years providing communication counsel to three different US senators. He started his career at a boutique communication firm in his hometown of Seattle. In addition to a solid background on environmental issues, he has led efforts to reform policies that impact food and nutrition, public health and children’s issues.

“Spitfire is known for tackling tough issues head on and offering clients counsel from staff who have walked in their shoes, appreciate their challenges and know how to put a winning strategy into play,” says Grimm. “With a background in both nonprofit and policy communications, Alex has a solid understanding of our clients’ needs and offers an impressive toolbox of proven tricks for helping them earn big wins.”
You can reach Alex at Alex@SpitfireStrategies.com now, and will be able to connect with Erin at EHart@SpitfireStrategies.com as of November 24, 2014.

“This has been a tremendous eye opener. It shows us how to pull the aspects of communications skills, from the message, to the audience. It forced us to identify our strengths and our weaknesses in an effort to become more strategic in how we prepare our messages and communicate them.”
