Training Coordinator

Spitfire Strategies, a strategic communications firm, is seeking a Training Coordinator to take on a range of event planning work in its Washington, D.C. office.

The Training Coordinator will provide support to the team responsible for planning and implementation of a variety of training events and programs. Job responsibilities will focus on coordinating all logistical aspects of executive nonprofit training programs including communicating with clients, negotiating contracts with vendors, responding to participant inquiries, outreach and correspondence to participants and presenters, creation of training materials, and assistance with participant recruitment. Other duties may include media tracking and list building, Internet research, writing and general office and client support. Successful candidates will possess the following qualities:

  • Office experience required (event planning experience strongly preferred);
  • Attention to detail and excellent oral and written communications skills;
  • A strong customer service ethic and a proactive approach;
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines, juggle multiple projects and work independently in a fast-paced environment;
  • Expertise in using MS Office software and Internet research tools; and
  • A demonstrated interest in helping to promote positive social change.

Spitfire Strategies provides communications counsel and trainings for nonprofit groups and foundations dedicated to positive social change. Spitfire's clients work on a wide range of issue areas including the environment, democracy, public health, children's health and criminal justice.

Account Executive, Washington, DC

Position implements assigned pieces of larger accounts and serves as day-to-day client contact on assigned client projects. Successful candidate has:

  • Strong writing skills that can be applied to a host of documents including media materials, collaterals, reports and other client deliverables;
  • Proven ability to secure local and national media coverage on a range of issues;
  • Comprehensive understanding of how to use a variety of communications tactics – media, advertising, Internet, collaterals, etc. – and good sense of which tactics to apply in order to meet the client’s goal;
  • General knowledge of state and federal political process;
  • A minimum of four years public relations agency or related professional experience.

Past experience working on social justice issues is a plus as is previous experience and contacts working with nonprofit organizations and media. Must be a highly motivated, self-starter who takes direction well but also can also work independently, thrives on variety and can shift directions seamlessly.

Senior Associate (multiple openings), New York, San Francisco and Washington, DC.

Must have exemplary writing skills, proven client service skills and demonstrated ability to create high-impact outreach strategies that involve multiple forms of media – Web, print collaterals, direct mail, earned media, paid advertising, etc. Successful candidate will possess:

  • Ability to conceive and implement communications strategies with multiple outreach tactics, ranging from earned media to Internet outreach to print collaterals;
  • Demonstrated expertise writing for a variety of media – including brochures, press materials, new business proposals, Web-based materials and internal documents;
  • Familiarity with new media – i.e., blogs and wikis – and understanding of when and how to incorporate these into communications campaigns;
  • Experience securing contracts with and managing vendors from other creative services areas including, including Web design, print pieces, radio, television, and event promotions;
  • Confidence and comfort giving presentations to clients, in new business settings and in trainings;
  • General knowledge of state and federal political process;
  • History of exemplary client service as demonstrated through previous client references; 
  • Experience managing multiple staff and consultants; and
  • A minimum of eight years relevant professional experience with some public relations agency experience preferred.

Past experience working on campaigns aimed at promoting positive social change and some knowledge of health care reform, children’s health, environmental protection, family planning and social justice issues a plus. Demonstrated public speaking skills and experience managing accounts, including workflow and budget a must. Right person for the job is a highly motivated, self-starter who takes direction well but also can also work independently, thrives on variety and can shift directions seamlessly. Account Coordinator (multiple openings), Washington, DC and San Francisco

Great opportunity for right person to break into public relations field. Job responsibilities include media tracking and list building, frequent Internet research, writing and general office and client support. Command of AP Style Guide a must. Other tasks may include coordinating event logistics, database development, mailings and media outreach. Successful candidates will possess the following qualities:

  • Six to 12 months full-time office experience preferred (Hill/PR agency a plus);
  • Knowledge of current events;
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills;
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines, juggle multiple projects and work independently in a fast-paced office;
  • Expertise in using MS Office software and Internet research tools (knowledge of Lexis-Nexis and Bacon’s Media Source a plus);
  • A bachelor’s degree; and
  • A demonstrated interest in helping to promote positive social change.
