Senate Passes Child Nutrition Act
Want your
messages to Congress to be memorable? With Spitfire’s help, the Child
Nutrition Initiative did just that when they delivered lunch trays to
every member of Congress urging them to support the Child Nutrition Act –
the legislation that oversees school breakfast and lunch programs. The
campaign is focused on making sure Congress passes strong legislation in
both the House and Senate that will help ensure that kids have access
to nutritious food to improve their health, succeed in school and grow
up to be healthy, active adults. Instead of sandwiches and snacks, the
colorful trays contained messages on the benefits the Act will provide
to children. The Senate voted unanimously to pass the Act. Similar
legislation awaits the House in the fall. |
Reports Confirm Communications’ Critical Role in Effective Advocacy
A pair of new briefs by Mathematica Policy Research showcase effective messaging and communications strategy as key elements of successful advocacy efforts. They evaluate a David and Lucile Packard Foundation investment in capacity-building for children’s health coverage advocates in a politically diverse set of states. First Focus partnered with the Foundation to fund this important work and the Georgetown Center for Children and Families leads technical assistance to state partners. These must-reads briefs highlight some of the best practices funders can look for when considering investments in advocacy. |
