Kimberly Johnson, Director
Kimberly Johnson brings to Spitfire a background in both corporate and nonprofit public relations, marketing and event planning and management, as well as strong skills in writing and editing for a variety of media, including press releases, newsletters and print and radio ads.
With a focus on capacity building efforts, Kim plans and coordinates trainings for a variety of philanthropic foundations and nonprofit organizations. She has trained and coached hundreds of grantees from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the David & Lucile Packard Foundation, The Brainerd Foundation and many others, helping to provide them the knowledge and tools they need to successfully communicate to their audiences and achieve their goals. Kim has also been heavily involved in developing and leading a series of webinars for Spitfire’s nonprofit and foundation clients, allowing hundreds of people from across the country to participate in many of Spitfire’s most popular trainings – without ever having to leave their offices.
Prior to joining Spitfire Strategies, Kim worked as a communications specialist at SEIU United Healthcare Workers – West in Oakland, California. At UHW, Kim developed public relations campaign strategies and tactics to support the union’s organizing, contract bargaining and legislative goals. Kim also organized and implemented public events to highlight UHW’s social justice and worker’s rights principles that drew local and statewide media coverage.
Kim has previously worked as a marketing assistant at the Small Business Exchange in San Francisco, a weekly newspaper dedicated to providing business opportunities to small, minority- and women-owned businesses across California and the U.S.
Kim received her B.A. in communications from The University of Arizona and is a rare breed – a San Francisco native actually living in San Francisco.
